Lightkeeper

A patch of misty light catches the old lightkeepers’ cottages above the Baily lighthouse. The paths through the grasses lure the wanderer towards the towering cliffs, where breathtaking beauty and yawning dangers lie side by side. I was concerned when painting this picture to render that power pylon correctly, as I was sure some expert would point out any errors in the details. Two weeks later the electricity company was changing wires at my house, and one of the men said “I erected that pole. Look, you’ve got all the fittings just right.”!

This painting was acquired by the Government of Ireland, and was part of the State collection at the President's residence in the Phoenix Park, Áras an Úachtaráin.
